Basil is one of the most popular herbs to grow at home – and with Auk, you can enjoy lush, flavorful plants year-round, right on your counter. 🌿
In short:
Sow about 20–40 seeds per pot.
Keep the temperature between 20–25 °C (68–77 °F) for best growth.
Basil will sprout after 2–7 days.
Ready to harvest after 3–6 weeks.
Harvest from the top – always leave at least ⅔ of the plant.
Sow 20–40 seeds and press them lightly into the coconut fiber
Basil seeds germinate quickly and easily. Basil seeds germinate quickly and easily, and grow best in temperatures around 20 °C (68 °F).
How to do it:
Fill the pots with coconut fiber (one pack is enough for all pots).
Sprinkle the seeds evenly across the surface.
Press them gently down into the fiber.
Sprouts will appear after 2–7 days.
💡 Basil grows slowly at first, but speeds up once roots are established and the temperature is right.
Start harvesting after 3–6 weeks (cut above nodes and always leave ⅔ of the plant)
After 3–6 weeks, your basil is ready for harvest!
Here’s how to get the best results:
Harvest from the top and cut just above a node (where two new leaves grow out).
Never harvest more than ⅓ of the plant at a time.
Trim regularly – the more you harvest correctly, the more it grows back!
A node is found right above a pair of leaves (where two leaves grow out from the stem). This is the perfect place to cut when harvesting or trimming.
By harvesting from the top and sticking to just ⅓ of the plant, you stimulate new growth. This leads to a bushy plant that keeps producing fresh leaves continuously.
Trim regularly and avoid flowering to keep your basil plant going for up to a year!
With the right temperature and regular harvesting, basil can live for 6–12 months in Auk! As the plant matures, it will eventually try to flower – when that happens, the flavor becomes stronger and less sweet.
To prevent flowering:
Trim the plant regularly and avoid letting the leaves grow too large.
If you notice flower buds, trim the stem just below the forming bloom – this will help extend the plant’s lifespan.
